Retirees To Start Paying Portion Of Their Dental Benefits

The Pantagraph is reporting that beginning in October state retirees will have to pay the same amount for dental insurance as current state employees.

“The union had no warning of this policy change and we will use contractual, legal, and other tools to attempt to reverse this action by the Quinn administration,” Council 31 Executive Director Henry Bayer said on the union’s Web site.”

Governor, AFSCME Meeting

The State Journal-Register reported that Governor Quinn and Council 31 executive director Henry Bayer met for 90 minutes on Monday Aug. 17th. The article said that the meeting was “to discuss possible contract concessions”, but then quotes the governors office as saying the meeting was “conductive” and was about “ways the union can help the state save money”. The article did not quote¬† the governors office as saying they were looking for any contract concessions. Whether they are or not can’t be substantiated from the article.
